Privacy Policy
The short version
- The LanCall app collects no personal data. It has no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no ads, no tracking and no third-party SDKs.
- Your messages, contacts, settings and keys are stored only on your iPhone. We never receive them.
- When “Visible to nearby phones” is on, nearby LanCall users can see the display name you chose.
- This website uses no cookies and no analytics. It keeps standard access logs for up to 30 days.
- If you email us, we use your email only to deal with your request.
1. Who we are
LanCall is made by Eliyau Purian, an individual developer trading as Shabloool, based in Israel (“we”, “us”). We are responsible (the “controller”) for the small amount of personal data described in this policy.
Contact: [email protected]
This policy covers the LanCall iPhone app and the website at lancall.app.
2. The app collects nothing
LanCall works without the internet and without our servers. In fact, we don’t run any servers for the app.
- No accounts. You don’t give us a phone number, an email address or a real name.
- No analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking.
- No third-party SDKs.
- We do not receive your messages, calls, contacts, display name, location or any other data from the app.
Messages and calls go directly between your iPhone and the other person’s iPhone, encrypted end to end. See our Security page for how this works.
3. What stays on your iPhone
To work, LanCall stores some data on your iPhone only:
- your messages, and messages waiting to be delivered;
- the people you have added (their display names and keys);
- your display name and settings;
- your identity keys, which are kept in the iPhone Keychain.
You control this data. Delete a chat or a person in the app to remove that data. Delete the app to remove all of it. We can’t see, recover or delete data on your phone, because it never reaches us.
LanCall’s chats, contacts and settings are excluded from iCloud Backup and computer backups, so they stay on this iPhone. The identity key is stored in the Keychain for this device only, so it isn’t included in backups or moved to a new phone. iOS can keep an app’s Keychain items after the app is deleted; if you install LanCall again, it discards any old key and creates a new one.
4. What people nearby can see
- Your display name and a random device identifier. When “Visible to nearby phones” is on (it is on by default), LanCall advertises the display name you chose and a random device identifier on the local network, so nearby LanCall users can find you. You can turn this off in My card. Choose a display name you are happy for strangers to see. It doesn’t have to be your real name.
- Your IP address. Phones you connect to can see your iPhone’s local IP address, as with any local network connection. The network operator can also see that devices are exchanging data, though not the content of your encrypted messages and calls.
- What you send. The people you message receive what you send. They can keep it, screenshot it or show it to others.
5. Permissions
LanCall asks for these permissions. All of them are optional. Chat works without the microphone, camera and NFC.
| Permission | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Local Network | To find and connect to other phones running LanCall. Without it, LanCall can’t connect. |
| Microphone | For voice calls only. |
| Camera | To scan QR codes only. No photos or video are saved. |
| NFC | To read and write contact tags only. |
You can change these at any time in the iPhone Settings app.
6. Support emails and reports
If you email [email protected], we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write or attach.
When you report someone from the chat menu, LanCall opens an email to us in your Mail app. You choose what to include, such as a description, screenshots or the person’s display name. Nothing is sent unless you send the email yourself.
We use emails only to answer you, to look into reports, to keep people safe and to meet legal obligations. Our email provider stores these emails for us.
7. Purchases
Apple handles the purchase, payment and refunds. We don’t receive your name or payment details. Apple gives us sales reports, which do not identify you. Apple’s handling of your data is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
8. This website
- Hosting. We host lancall.app on our own server, behind Cloudflare.
- Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes requests to deliver the website and protect it from attacks. To do this it handles your IP address and browser data. See Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
- Access logs. Our server keeps standard access logs: IP address, time, page requested and browser (user agent). We keep them for up to 30 days, for security and to fix problems.
- No cookies, no analytics. We don’t set cookies. We don’t use analytics or advertising, and the site loads no scripts or fonts from other websites.
9. Why we may use data (legal bases)
We use personal data only for the purposes in this policy:
- Website logs: our legitimate interest in keeping the website running and secure.
- Support emails: our legitimate interest in answering you, and taking steps you ask for before or under a contract (your app licence).
- Reports of abuse: our legitimate interest, and yours, in keeping LanCall users safe; and complying with the law.
- Legal requests: complying with legal obligations.
You are not legally required to give us any personal data. If you don’t email us, we simply can’t answer you.
10. Who we share data with
We don’t sell or rent personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising. We share it only with:
- service providers that work for us: Cloudflare, our server hosting provider and our email provider;
- authorities or others, when the law requires it, or when needed to protect someone’s safety;
- professional advisers, such as lawyers, when needed.
We are based in Israel. The European Commission and the UK recognise Israel as providing adequate protection for personal data. Our service providers may process data in other countries, using their own legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
11. How long we keep data
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| App data (messages, contacts, keys, settings) | Only on your iPhone, until you delete it or the app. We never hold it. |
| Website access logs | Up to 30 days |
| Support emails and reports | Only as long as needed to handle your request, and any longer period the law requires |
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data. These include rights under the EU and UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and Israel’s Privacy Protection Law (including Amendment 13). They may include the right to:
- know what personal data we hold about you and get a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- object to or restrict how we use it;
- receive it in a portable format.
We don’t sell or share personal data for cross-context behavioural advertising. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.
What this means in practice. The app collects nothing, so there is usually nothing for us to give you or delete beyond any emails you sent us and website logs from the last 30 days. To delete data in the app, delete the chat or person, or delete the app.
How to make a request. Email [email protected] with “Privacy request” in the subject. We may ask for information to confirm the request is yours (for example, the IP address and date for website logs). We reply within 30 days.
Complaints. You can complain to a data protection authority. In Israel this is the Privacy Protection Authority. In the EU, it is the authority in your country (list of EU authorities). In the UK, it is the Information Commissioner’s Office. We would appreciate the chance to help first, so please contact us.
13. Children
LanCall is intended for people aged 13 and over. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from children. The app collects no data from anyone. If you believe a child under 13 has emailed us, contact us and we will delete the email.
14. Security
We protect the little data we hold (emails and logs) with access controls, encrypted connections and short retention. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold to a minimum.
15. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date. If a change matters to you, for example if the app starts to collect any data, we will say so clearly on this website and in the app’s release notes before it takes effect.
